This project is part-financed by the European Commission

Geography and fragility of the environment pose certain challenges to Europe's mountain areas, be it simply elevated costs or extra difficulties in territorial development. However, the mountain regions have found ways to deal with these handicaps and to adapt their development efforts to the physical context. Part-financed by the European Union (European Regional Development Fund) within the INTERREG IIIC Programme, "Euromountains.net" -project aims to identify and collect these innovative solutions, their transferable success factors, and to methodologically work together to find further new strategies. These solutions will enrich the toolbox in disposal of the local authorities that work for the sustainable development in the mountains, and maybe help them to face and reverse the continuing exodus from these regions.

"Euromountains.net" will be concentrating on three specific themes:

The project partnership includes 14 partners representing five European Union Member States (France, Italy, Portugal, Spain, UK) and Norway and representing mainly regional authorities. It covers a variety of mountain regions, allowing an interesting exchange of experiences in each theme and assuring the true European nature of the project activities and results.

The Final conference “Territorial authorities and stakeholders: Creating success together’” took place in Turin (Italy), 8 – 9 March 2007

The final conference of the project, bringing experience from these themes together for discussion and conclusions, indicated future scenarios for the sustainable development for the European mountains, in a perspective of European cooperation and of synergetic interaction between cities and mountains. In addition to actors from the partner regions, the conference involved the European Commission and the wider European mountain community through the extensive network of Euromontana, the European Association of Mountain Areas.
