A public consultation on the 2011 White Paper on transport is open

The European Commission has opened a public consultation on the Mid-term revision of the 2011 White Paper on transport. This consultation is addressed to citizens, companies, public authorities, academia, associations and other stakeholders who have an interest in the European transport policy agenda. The deadline to answer is the 2nd June 2015.

Background:

In the framework of the European Union’s 2020 growth strategy, in 2011, the European Commission adopted the White Paper: Roadmap to a single European Transport Area towards a competitive and resource efficient transport system.

The objective of this white paper was to define a long-term strategy that would help the EU transport system to achieve the overall goal of the Common Transport Policy, to provide current and future generations with access to safe, secure, reliable and affordable mobility resources to meet their own needs and aspirations, while minimising undesirable impacts such as congestion, accidents, air and noise pollution, and climate change effects.

In the framework of Move On Green, Euromontana has worked on transport in rural and mountain areas for the past three years. The knowledge gained could be a good starting point for answering to this public consultation. Thus, if you have a particular expertise on transport and you would like to be involved in the answer, please contact the secretariat as soon as possible and not later than 10th April.

Mountains are being strongly modified by climate change. In the Alps, glaciers decreased by half b/w 1900-2012. Thus, conditions for mountaineering are deteriorating, leading to more danger & technical difficulty of routes. How are Alpine guides adapting? https://t.co/kf9gl7XAds
