In order to keep on working on the development of the Digital Single Market, the European Commission (EC) has agreed on focusing on three main areas for action.
For the first area, better access for consumers and businesses to digital goods and services, the EC will facilitate cross-border e-commerce especially for SME, with harmonised consumer and contract rules and with more efficient and affordable parcel delivery.
For the second area, shaping the environment for digital networks and services to flourish, the EC will focus on investment in infrastructure and 4G technology, of particular importance for mountain areas (even sometimes to ensure that at least a good 2G is ensured)
Finally, for the third area, creating a European Digital Economy and Society with long-term growth potential, the EC will focus on e-services such as e-health -which is very relevant for mountain areas- and digital skills.
Regarding the next steps that will be taken, these main areas of action will be part of the new Digital Single Market Strategy that shall be unveiled in May.
