Euromontana has been re-elected as a member of the Steering Committee of the Mountain Partnership – the United Nations alliance dedicated to mountain areas worldwide. The election took place on September 29, during the Sixth Global Meeting of the Mountain Partnership from 26 to 29 September 2022 in Aspen (United States).
As it was already the case during the 2017-2021 mandate, Euromontana will be represented in this Steering Committee by Simao Pinho, member of the Euromontana Board of Directors and of the Portuguese organisation CIMO – Mountain Research Centre. The Albanian Alps Alliance serves as alternate.
This is an important mandate for Euromontana to bring the voice of European mountains to the international stage and to the United Nations, but also to learn from other mountain territories outside Europe.
During the meeting, the Aspen Declaration was also adopted by the members of the Mountain Partnership – it calls for more cooperation for sustainable mountain development, environmental protection, social inclusion, services for communities and knowledge sharing.6 October 2022
