Euromontana’s members meet the Italian DG forestry department in Rome

On 12 June 2018, some Italian members of Euromontana gathered in Rome to meet with Alessandra Stefani, the new General Director of the National Forestry Department from the Italian Agriculture Ministry.
Elisabetta Parravicini, vice-President of Euromontana and President of ERSAF, presented the European Association for Mountain Areas and its role for the development of mountain and particularly for the development of forests.  During the meeting the possible synergies with the association were underlined, in particular the positive repercussions on common forest policies that strongly affect mountain areas.

The Italian Agriculture Ministry showed a vivid interest in the role of Euromontana, seen as a primary actor to raise awareness, as it can do both technical training and promotion on the importance of preserving forests, their functions and resources. It is essential to export local initatives and good practices from mountain areas to Europe, involving all the stakeholders of the supply chain in decision-making processes, such as forest owners’ associations or forest enterprises and cooperatives.

Euromontana secretariat is very glad to see the association’s members being active at the national level and would like to thank Elisabetta Parravicini, President of ERSAF (Ente Regionale per i Servizi all’Agricoltura e alle Foreste), for sharing this information with us.
