“A Europe closer to citizens” how does this new priority fit the needs of mountains areas?

Territorial cohesion was on the agenda recently of the European Week of Regions and Cities, held online in October 2020. With the current programming period coming to an end, this year’s Regions week aimed at further reflecting on the opportunities offered by Cohesion Policy for the programming post-2020.

This article presents the new architecture of the Cohesion Policy and reflects on its possible implementation in mountain areas. It details the past and present structure of the Cohesion Policy’s objectives and explores the opportunities and limits of Policy Objective 5 “Europe closer to citizen”.
