On 20 December 2017, the United Nations General Assembly unanimously adopted resolution by which it declared 2019-2028 to be the Decade of Family Farming (Decade). FAO and IFAD have been called upon by the General Assembly to co-lead the implementation of the Decade in cooperation with a broad range of partners.

The Decade will aim at focusing systematically on cross-cutting and multi-dimensional issues which are of concern to family farmers. The objective is to improve national results in the framework of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), while positioning family farmers as key agents of change in transforming food systems. Euromontana will participate to the event to highlight the resilience and sustainability of mountain farming.

The Global Launch will run for 3 days. The two first days will be dedicated to preparatory meetings where the direct exchange with and between family farmers from different regions and sectors will take place, as well as forums to initiate discussions for potential actions in different regions. The official launch will be held on 29 May 2019.
