In Europe as elsewhere, areas with untapped development potential coexist with overexploited urban and peri-urban spaces. Due to increasing congestion costs, economic activities are gradually spreading to rural regions, but market forces alone cannot provide the necessary incentives to redress the prevailing trend: decentralisation policies, decisions and actions at every level of government are required.

The European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) is organising a conference on balanced territorial development to be held at our premises in Brussels on 9 September 2015, from 10 a.m to 5 p.m. Euromontana is invited to take part in the debate.

Please find more information and the draft programme on the EESC website.
