Under the title of “Towards the creation of a global mountain label” The Mountain Partnership Secretariat is organizing a two-day workshop to be held in Rome on 20th and 21st May 2015. This event is in the frame of the Mountain Partnership project “Climate Change and Mountain Forests”, funded by the Government of Italy.

This event aims to start a dialogue about the establishment of a labelling scheme to brand high value mountain products as a strategy to boost sustainable development in the world’s mountain regions.

This workshop will gather members of the Mountain Partnership and other experts to discuss about the best way to create a mountain label along the lines of a geographical indication label.

At the EU level, a new optional quality term for mountain products has just been adopted (regulation 1151/2012 adopted in 2012 and delegated act in 2014). For European mountain areas, it would be of foremost importance to help bring to the ground the actual regulation on mountain products before discussing about new protection schemes at global level. Any new approach shall not weaker the European regulation and should ensure a good protection of both mountain products producers and consumers.

Euromontana representatives will participate to this meeting and don’t hesitate to join us during the event.
