From the mountain to the table: a website for mountain products in Romania

The National Agency of Mountain Areas of Romania created the website produsmontan.ro dedicated to farmers using the Optional Quality Term “mountain product”. The platform aims at promoting the term and the various mountain productions, from meat and dairy products to honey, vegetables and herbs. Buying mountain products is a way to support local producers by maintaining the added value in mountain areas and to sustain traditional activities in these regions, therefore helping to maintain communities in mountain territories.

Romania implements the EU regulation on the Optional Quality Term “mountain product” since 2016 and has been very active in promoting the term. In 2019, Romania already adopted a national logo for products benefiting from the OQT, for a better visibility of the term and less confusion among consumers. The creation of this platform is therefore another step in the promotion of mountain products in Romania.

In Romania, the National Agency of Mountain Areas, which is part of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, is in charge of coordinating the implementation of the OQT. The National Agency of Mountain Areas is in charge of keeping track of OQT producers in the National Registry of Mountain Products. The new website created by the Agency is strictly dedicated to producers who have already received the authorisation to use the term.
