Vidzeme Planning Region, Latvia

The Vidzeme Planning Region is a public law juridical person under the control of the Ministry of the Environment and Regional Development. It was established to define regional policy, to ensure development and spatial planning, to ensure co-ordination and co-operation between municipalities and other regional institutions and to implement regional projects. One of its main tasks is to manage public transport in the region. The Vidzeme Planning Region’s mission is to provide political support for regional development.

The Vidzeme Planning Region will participate in the project in order to benefit from co-operating with other countries and exchanging ideas on best practices and experiences in the sector of transport. In addition, the Vidzeme Planning Region could be seen as an example for other regions due to its experience with simultaneously taking advantage of its historical heritage, promoting the concept of ‘slow life’ in transport services (ferry, narrow-gauge railway) and encouraging tourism.
