Development and attractiveness of rural territories

Law on development of rural territories

The French ministry of agriculture launched in 2006 a call for projects, renewed in 2007 and 2008, inspired by the rural territories development law (‘LDTR’). In this framework, Euromontana worked on a presentation of this law to the wider network (2006) and conducted studies on three different subjects of relevance for development of rural territories in general and mountain areas in particular.

Studies

Services of general interest (2006)

In addition to the presentation of the law, Euromontana worked in 2006 on a study on services of general interest. The final report presented the issues at stake regarding maintenance of services of general interest in mountain areas and presented ten innovative European experiences on this theme.

Challenges of pastoralism (2007)

In this study, we draw a general presentation of several experiences in the field of development of sustainable economic activities in mountain areas for collective authorities, development agencies and advisory services. The activities were split in three categories:

  • 1/ Spaces threatened by urbanisation of intermediary areas – Land pressure
  • 2/ Pastoral management systems
  • 3/ Economic challenges and support by local and regional authorities, States and the EU.

The study examined in detail 10 initiatives regarding organisation, legislation or innovative technologies in the related theme.
