Register now for the Forest Innovation workshop on 26 April in Brussels

Forestry and forest-based economy will play a major role in the EU climate and energy policy and bio-economy. The European Innovation Partnership Agricultural Productivity and Sustainability (EIP Agri) specifically addresses these issues and offers a framework for supporting innovation in forestry.

At the first Forest Innovation Workshop in May 2014, regional forest actors and experts joined forces for the identification of priority areas on which innovation support efforts through Rural Development policies and other European programmes should be focused. This initiative resulted in 4 main priorities for innovation in forestry:

  1. Managing Impacts related to Climate Change
  2. Supporting Wood and Biomass Mobilization
  3. Supporting the Provision of Ecosystem Services
  4. Improving Sustainable Forest Management Approaches and Tools.

Starting from these 4 challenges, the 2018 edition workshop “Inform-Prioritize-Collaborate: Cooperation of Regions on Innovation in Forest Management, Use of Wood and Forest-related Services” will focus on practical ideas and cases on tackling forest-related challenges through innovation, in particular implemented by Operational Groups.

The event will provide an opportunity to learn about the most recent updates on European Initiatives and connect with a selection of innovative cases.  It’s now time to show what regions are already implementing or planning for the near future, to inspire other territories to follow good examples and also to establish cross-border cooperation.

The workshop, organised by the ERIAFF Network, the European Forest Institute, Euromontana, the European Confederation of Forest Owners, EUSTAFOR, COPA-COGECA and ERRIN, will be held at the Representation of the Free State of Bavaria to the European Union in Brussels on 26 April 2018.

To register, fill in this online form before 20 April 2018.

Today ERSAF is attending the Forum Origin, Diversity and Territories in Turin, Italy.
The international discussion addresses the interaction between local identity, origin, quality and diversity as an opportunity for territorial development. Tools such as Geographical Indications or Mountain Product Indications are fundamental to promote the values and peculiarities of evolving territories such as mountain areas.

Creative Europe
Creative Europe success stories – Tramontana network

This project aims to preserve Europe's intangible cultural heritage.

Gathering 8 partners in 5 European countries - France, Italy, Portugal, Spain, Poland, it documents and shares information on environmental, agricultural, tourist and socio-ethnic heritage in rural and mountain communities. This is essential for sustainable tourism, academic records and the passing-on of knowledge between generations.

Engagement of local communities was a key component throughout the project, This is also a priority of the European year of Cultural Heritage.
