Sustainable transport is crucial in rural areas!

The department of European affairs from the Provincial Government of Teruel (PGT) participated to a study visit in Spain organized by Sodebur, another member of Move on Green’s project. During this visit, PGT learnt more about different good practices on sustainable mobility in rural areas, such as:
– Car sharing organized by a neighborhood association,
– Coordination between the transport and education departments in Asturia government to use school buses not only for students but also for the general public, outside regular school hours
– a company of renting electric mountain bike
– and an electric taxi that is charged from a solar plant.

The second vice president of the PGT underlined that sustainable transport is crucial for rural areas, as a solution “which helps reconcile access to education, health, employment and recreation of the citizens in these areas with sustainability environment“. To improve its own situation in Teruel, PGT has provided a grant to buy a van in a village to help four students to commute from their home to their school and this bus is driven by a local civil servant. Thanks to this initiative, five families stayed working and living in the rural area of Mezquita de Jarque.
