The EU Strategy for the Alpine Region (EUSALP) was discussed during two sessions of the European Week of Regions and Cities (EWRC) in October, 2016. EUSALP is a macroregional strategy for the Alpine region that seeks to improve and increase cooperation and collaboration to achieve economic, social, and territorial cohesion. The two workshops were entitled: “EUSALP – a Laboratory for Transnational Governance” and “EUSALP: an engine for European growth”. The first workshop examined how to best engage civil society and regions in the strategy and how to govern the strategy. The second workshop examined the role of EUSALP in promoting economic development in the Alps. It specifically examined tourism as a driver of growth. EU, national, and regional experts spoke at the sessions.
