30 Years of Action for European Mountains Conference

9 September 2025
Krakow, Poland

Relive the celebrations in Krakow marking 30 years of action for Europe’s mountain regions and help shape the future of our territories!

Thirty years ago, in Kraków, representatives from across Europe gathered to call for stronger cooperation between mountain territories and better recognition of their specificities in public policies. This call, captured in the Kraków Declaration, marked the birth of Euromontana, the European association of mountain areas.

As Europe enters a new policy cycle, Euromontana and the Region of Małopolska invited mountain stakeholders to return to Kraków – where it all began- to reflect on 30 years of collective action and on the socio-economic and environmental transitions that have shaped our regions. Are we still facing the same challenges? How far have we come in ensuring that mountain voices are heard and needs are addressed across all levels of governance?

This anniversary event was not only a moment of celebration, it is also a time to look ahead. Together, we discussed how to strengthen interregional cooperation, advance mountain-proof policymaking, and build resilient, attractive, and future-proof mountain communities.
