The Autonomous Province of Trento joins Euromontana !

We are delighted to announce that the Autonomous Province of Trento (Italy) has recently become a member of Euromontana!

Drawing from an already well-established foundation in European cooperation, they are ready to share their knowledge and expertise, while gaining new insights from other organisations and public authorities working in mountain areas, particularly with regard to tourism and agriculture-related policies.

The province is located on the north-eastern border of Italy and has a special autonomous status granted by the Italian Republic. This means that it has legislative and administrative autonomy, especially concerning social policies, labour inclusion, training and territorial development. At the same time, the Province is eager to continue fostering strategic relations with South Tyrol, the neighbouring regions, the Italian government and Europe – as demonstrated by their willingness to join our network.

Main sector of interests of the Province of Trento

Its landscape is mostly mountainous, and is therefore characterised by marginal areas located far away from main service centres as health care, education, and mobility, largely concentrated in the two main cities of Trento and Rovereto, both of which are located on the valley floor.

Economic sectors that most decisively contribute to the GDP development, at the provincial level, are tourism, agriculture (excellence), and innovation-industry (most of them comprised within small or very-small production units). Pervasively present is the social cooperative first and second level of the cooperation sector, particularly in the field of credit and public consumption.

Focus on communities and citizen participation

Particularly relevant are the profiles of social capital present on the territory, characterised by a high level of participation, marked volunteer work, and associationism.

The Communities operating on the provincial territory have a long and active tradition of self-government and participative control of both the territory and the rural landscape.

The Province (PAT) acknowledges and highly values local communities by sustaining citizens’ daily life and their activities in terms of their active participation in public decision-making and by encouraging the development of green, digital, and environmental actions. It also acknowledges and supports the life and birth of community cooperatives, the strategic development of inner areas, in terms of promoting inclusion and economic, social, and territorial cohesion.
