About Puigcerdà

The Convention will be held in Puigcerdà, in the district of Cerdanya, Catalonia. 

Puigcerdà is situated on the banks of the river Segre at an altitude of around 1,200 metres. It borders France and is a hotspot for cross-border cooperation in the Pyrenees. 

There are a number of different ways to travel and stay in the area, as detailed below.

Venues

The main venue of the Convention will be the Casino Teatre Ceretà. Built in 1893 for the Casino Ceretà Association, it is now the main theatre in Puigcerdà. The parallel workshops will be held in 4 different venues, all within walking distance of the main venue.

How to get to Puigcerdà

By plane

It is possible to get to Puigcerdà from the following airports: 

  • The most convenient airport is Barcelona, from where there are train and bus connections to Puigcerdà. 
  • In France, Puigcerdà is also easily accessible from Toulouse airport.
  • If neither of the above options is suitable, Madrid airport offers better international connections. On the other hand, it takes about 7 hours to travel from Madrid to Puigcerdà, so this may not be the best option. 

These main airports are connected to Puigcerdà by train or bus, as explained below.  

By train

There are cheap regional train services in Spain and France to Puigcerdà: 

  • From Barcelona, Rodalies de Catalunya offers a regional train service (R3) with around six trains a day to Puigcerdà. Check the timetable here. You can depart from any of the following stations: Sants, Catalunya or Arc de Triomf. The journey takes around 3 hours. Tickets are available at the stations. If you are flying to Barcelona, please note that you can get to Sants station by train directly from the T2 terminal at the airport.  
  • From Toulouse, take the SNCF regional train to Puigcerdà (takes about 3 hours 20 minutes) and change at Latour de Carol to the R3 train.  
  • From Madrid airport, you can use Renfe trains to Barcelona and then continue on to Puigcerdà. 

By bus

  • From Barcelona, buses leave from the Estació del Nord (Carrer de Nàpols, 68). You should book with the following company Alsa, BcnB-Ll bus (direction Llivia). Get off in front of Puigcerdà station (Plaça de l’Estació). 
  • From Perpignan in France, you can take the liO Occitanie 66 560 bus (direction Latour-de-Carol – Foyer). You should get off in the municipality of Bourg-Madame (La Porte stop). The journey from Perpignan takes about 2 hours. From there you can walk to the centre of Puigcerdà in about 20 minutes.  

Accommodation options

The region of La Cerdanya has a wide range of hotels, but please note that the choice in Puigcerdà is rather limited. You can find accommodation through these two main websites. If your accommodation is in the Cerdanya area but not directly in Puigcerdà, you can use the Alsa buses to get to the Convention. Tickets will be sold on the buses. Please check the timetables
