Evaluation of the EU’s Strategy on adaptation to climate change

Euromontana’s response to the public consultation on the EU strategy on adaptation to climate change.

In 2016, the Commission launched an evaluation of the EU climate change adaptation Strategy (adopted in 2013) to examine the actual implementation and performance of the strategy.

As part of the evaluation process, a stakeholder consultation was open from December 2017 to March 2018, in which Euromontana took part.

This final position paper on the EU strategy on adaptation to climate change presents:

  • A state of play on the impacts of climate change in mountain areas and the importance of those territories in the adaptation process
  • Recommendations on how to include mountains in European and national adaptation strategies with specific indicators for progress monitoring
  • Recommendations to ensure adequate support for adaptation action at the local level through EU funding programmes (notably through LIFE, Horizon Europe and in the future Common Agricultural and Cohesion policies)
  • Examples of successful adaptation initiatives in mountain areas across Europe
