Implementation of the EU Optional Quality Term “mountain product”

Cover mountain products report 2020

The Optional Quality Term report, first published in 2016 and updated in 2017 and 2019, provides an overview of the uptake of this label in Europe.

Euromontana has long advocated the creation of the Optional Quality Term ” mountain product ” and is now monitoring its implementation throughout the European Union. Several countries are implementing the Optional Quality Term at national level, and as the European Delegated Act gave Member States flexibility, the conditions of implementation may differ from one country to another.

This report includes:

  • The list of countries that apply or do not apply the European legislation on the Optional Quality Term and, if so, under which conditions (national logo, authorisation procedure, distance derogation, competent authorities, etc.).
  • Statistics and concrete examples of products and producers using the Optional Quality Term.
  • A factsheet summarising the different ways in which the legislation on the Optional Quality Term has been implemented.
